He suspects the reason for the dying trees
is from girdling root. Chris will oversee the planting of the replacement
trees and hopes to have all trees replaced by the end of August.
c) What is the strategy and plans for large trees (roots)
encroaching/damaging the greens on 5, 18 and club house practice
green- Chris stated he is hesitant to root prune green #5 cottonwood due
to concerns with the stability of the tree. Typically when you root prune
you dig a trench 2’ deep and install a barrier, such as an herbicide
impregnated barrier. Chris is still researching the different types of
barriers. Discussion on #5 – do we replace the green or remove the tree?
The board asked if we could determine what is really going on with #5
green. Chris agreed to work with WGP to collect data, take course
samples and come up with a schematic of the green to determine the
possible cause for #5 green issues. Chris will report back to the board at
the August meeting with the results. We then discussed “root crown
decay” regarding hole #9 cottonwood tree. Chris recommended the
removal of these trees and stated that the winter months are the best time
to do this.
d) Update with WGP of the on-going recovery actions – Joe deferred to
Eric on this item.
Eric stated that the reclaimed water was turned on July 3rd.
Coal Creek had a gate valve fail which caused the 8” main line
between 9 and 13 to break along with a breakage of a main line T.
The water line breakage is the cause for the dry spots on holes 1, 9
and 13.
Verticut and topdress is scheduled this week due to cooler temps.
The entire fairway on hole #15 will be topdressed.
Greenside bunkers will be refilled with sand returning them to a 4”
base. WGP does plan on addressing the fairway bunkers as well.
GPS has been installed in the new carts.

Item V- GCAB discussion-
a. Golf course conditions/operational overview at Heritage
Westmoor and Flatirons - The board briefly reviewed and
continues to use the information from the course visits as a
benchmark.
b. Coal Creek Golf course conditions and golfer concerns – It was
noted that course conditions are improving but much work still
4
