Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
July 15, 2013

Stewart asked if there was a way to make this interactive with searchable databases.
Lingo stated the property listings are in Excel which is an interactive program.
Presentation – Reconnaissance Survey
Stewart introduced Phil Barlow, surveyor, who gave a PowerPoint presentation of his
findings.
Barlow stated a reconnaissance level survey is a much larger and more general than
survey’s such as the Jefferson Place Survey. There are approximately 550 structures in
this area.
Barlow’s presentation included the following details:
The idea behind the survey is to establish a survey of the local architecture, age
of structures and determine what districts might exist
The survey process used several volunteers for data collection
All data collection as done electronically for easy upload
The surveyor utilized GIS maps already created by the City of Louisville
There is a potential for local district but not national districts due to the spacing of
eligible structures
Stewart asked what the final product will be.
Barlow stated the survey will include photos, data forms, maps and text.
Stewart asked if there could be any site specific maps created, based on architecture
and age.
Barlow stated this sort of application could easily happen through GIS.
Stewart asked staff if the final report will be on the website.
Robinson answered in the affirmative.
Discussion – Main Street Program
Robinson gave an update from the Main Street Program meeting which took place in
July.
Stewart stated he would like to see this program go to the next step.
Koertje stated it was a good presentation and thought there was a good turnout.
Discussion – Loans from the HPF
Robinson stated he is awaiting more details form the City Attorney.
