In response City Manager Fleming contacted Kenny
Maenpa, Airport manager for the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, who explained
5 U.S. Marine Corps F-18 aircraft have been conducting training exercises at the airport
during the past week. They are departing today and will not be conducting further
exercises. Mr. Maenpa reported receiving complaints about the noise from several
sources, including a Congressman. The City tries to work with the airport regarding
aircraft noise, but the airport is regulated by Federal air traffic officials, and the City has
no control over the noise or routes the planes use. There will not be further aviation
noise from military aircraft in the near future.
Council member Loo commented the jet fighter noise is the sound of freedom. She
explained often times there will be military maneuvers over populated areas because
the fighters are practicing purposely in a real world environment for an emergency,
which might happen in the future.
Council member Jasiak reported Governor Hickenlooper appointed Mark Sirangelo as
Colorado's Chief Innovation Officer and Chairman of the Chief Innovation Network.
Mark Sirangelo is the Corporate Vice President of Sierra Nevada Corporation, which is
located in Louisville.
