l0 <br /> PUBLIC WORKS <br /> DEPARTMENT <br /> The Public Works Department consists of WATER AND <br /> five divisions: Engineering, Streets, Water and <br /> Wastewater Plants, Water and Wastewater WASTEWATER PLANTS <br /> Distribution, and Vehicle and Equipment <br /> Maintenance. While few Capital Projects were The most significant change at the Wastewater Plant <br /> budgeted, the divisions concentrated in 1982 in in 1982 was the approval for construction of a .34 <br /> establishing more efficient working operations. M.G.D. expansion of the existing 1.0 M.G.D. plant. <br /> Accomplishments of each division are as follows: Construction will begin in early 1983. Installation of a <br /> new outfall line into the plant readied the facility for <br /> this expansion. The Plant employees began <br /> conducting all required testing in-house, eliminating <br /> ENGINEERING the need for the expense and inconvenience of using <br /> outside testing companies. <br /> The major City construction project for 1982 was At the Water Plant, flouridation facilities were <br /> installation of traffic signals and median islands on installed through a 100% State Health Department- <br /> South Boulder Road at Main Street and Centennial funded grant. Improvements were made to the raw <br /> Drive. Most construction was in the area of private water intake at Eldorado Springs. Improvements were <br /> development. The Engineering Department reviewed made in 0&M procedures and record keeping. <br /> 93 planning referrals, engineering plan sets, and All employees at both plants are State Certified, and <br /> drainage reports in 1982. The City also <br /> adopted a"City-Wide Basin Drainageway Plan." f ` <br /> 4. <br /> STREETS <br /> In 1982, the Street Department maintained and -' <br /> repaired 42.3 miles of streets, up from 39.0 miles in <br /> 1981. Maintenance included pavement, curbs and <br /> walks, street signs, storm sewer facilities, weed <br /> mowing,snow removal,and street sweeping. <br /> While no major changes took place during 1982, on .74. <br /> ongoing process of improving departmental efficiency °- <br /> continued. An example of this is the replacement of David Blanchard <br /> metal snow plow blade edges with rubber blade edges. City Engineer <br /> The new rubber blades reduce operating costs with the <br /> added benefit of preventing possible damage to either <br /> equipment or streets. <br /> L <br />
