Chapter 6.20 Backyard Hens <br />Sec. 6.20.020. Keeping of female chickens (hens) restricted. <br />Sec. 6.20.020. Keeping of female chickens (hens) restricted. <br />A. The keeping of chickens in the Residential Restricted Rural (R -RR) <br />and Agricultural (A) zone districts is not subject to this chapter but shall <br />be in compliance with all other applicable provisions of this Code. <br />B. Backyard hens may be kept in all residential zone districts, subject to <br />the following conditions and requirements: <br />1. Backyard hens shall be prohibited in the Residential High Density <br />(RH) zone district and multi - family dwellings, except duplexes or <br />townhouses. <br />2. No property shall contain more than six (6) female chickens (hens). <br />3. Male chickens (or roosters) are not permitted. <br />4. Backyard hens are required to be contained within a designated <br />chicken coop and fenced run that shall meet the following <br />requirements: <br />a. The chicken coop and fenced run shall be located <br />outside of the established front yard setback or behind <br />the principal structure's front facade, whichever distance <br />is greater; and <br />b. The coop side and rear setback requirements shall <br />adhere to the accessory use setback requirements <br />established for each zone district or any established <br />Planned Unit Development (PUD); <br />5. Coops shall be predator resistant with a solid covered roof. <br />6. Water shall be provided onsite and accessible to chickens at all <br />times. <br />7. During daylight hours, the hens shall have access to a fenced run <br />and shall also have access to a chicken coop. <br />Ordinance No. 1644, Series 2013 <br />Page 3 of 6 <br />
