Circulation remains roughly the same as it was in 2012, however,
children's programs have become very popular. The summer reading program
was a rousing success. The Library partnered with Boulder Valley School District
(BVSD)to figure out how to help students get books. It was a good collaboration
with BVSD. This partnership may be a model for the State.
The Library staff helped people understand technology with the "ihelp" outreach
program, helping people access e-books.
The "On the Same Page" program has expanded.
Library policies were revised and the Board completed a strategic plan, including
a new mission statement: "The Louisville Public Library's mission is to inform,
involve, and inspire the communities we serve."
The Library partnered with Intercambio serving 225 students; 40 from Louisville.
Issues and Challenges include:
• The role of libraries in general
• Keeping up with technology
• Outreach efforts
In 2014, the Board and Staff plan to continue to educate patrons on e-books,
reach out to businesses and explore "Little Libraries".
Councilmember Dalton commented that the strategic plan should be commended
for its brevity and clarity. He publicly acknowledged the staff and thanked them
for their hard work.
The full presentation can be found in the packet.
Update/Discussion — Historical Commission
Daniel Mellish presented the Historical Commission annual report to Council.
Highlights include:
Paid memberships have increased and they now have 523 members.
