Louisville City Council Meeting <br />October 1, 2002 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA <br /> <br />Karen Mulholland, Karen's In The Country, 1900 Plaza Drive, Louisville, CO stated that <br />the Smoking Ordinance has affected her business. She explained that two large parties <br />have cancelled due to the ban on smoking. She urged Council to reconsider expanding <br />the ordinance to include a non-smoking buffer at entrances to public building. <br /> <br />Bob Doyle, American Lung Association of Colorado, 1600 Race Street, Denver, CO, <br />noted that the City's ordinance banning smoking would take effect on October 8, 2002, <br />and thanked the Mayor and Council for making Louisville a smoke-free community. <br /> <br />Chuck Stout, Director of the Boulder County Public Health Department, 1169 Hillside <br />Lane, Louisville, CO, thanked Council for taking a stance against smoking in Louisville. <br />He voiced his belief that Louisville will realize an increase in tax revenue because people <br />will come to Louisville to a non-smoking environment. <br /> <br />Kim Hills, Coordinator for Tobacco Education Program (TEPS), 2895 Kenyon Circle, <br />Boulder, CO, explained that the TEPS program assists people who wish to stop smoking <br />and discourages young people from smoking. She thanked Mayor Davidson and Council <br />for passing an ordinance banning smoking in public places. <br /> <br />Barrett Dunn, Boulder County Health Department Second-Hand Smoke Specialist, 7398 <br />Park Place, Boulder,.CO, thanked the Council for passing the smoking ordinance. She <br />also spoke on behalf of a group of Monarch High School students who wished to thank <br />Council for protecting their health, as customers in restaurants and employees. <br /> <br />Erin Leary, American Heart Association, 1280 S. Parker Road, Denver, CO also thanked <br />Council for adopting the smoking ordinance. <br /> <br />COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON <br /> THE AGENDA <br /> <br />Mayer suggested that Council and City Staff investigate the Green Points Program for <br />energy conservation for any capital construction within the City. He stressed the <br />importance of the City taking a leadership role in resource and energy conservation. <br /> <br />Sisk addressed the issue of parking at Monarch High School and asked Public Works <br />Director Tom Phare to investigate relocating the no parking signs on St. Andrews Lane. <br /> <br />Phare stated that the public works department has worked extensively with the school <br />district officials to expand parking at the campus. He stated that he was not aware of a <br />demand for parking beyond what exists and stressed there are parking spaces on campus <br />that the school has not made available. <br /> <br /> <br />
