Questions and comments on items not specifically related to the
reconstruction were as follows:
Staff is working on ensuring WGP obligations for Memberships and Gift Cards will be made
good.
US 36 changes are not expected to impact the Course. We will investigate potential ways
of blocking noise from the highway.
Tom Davinroy from the Open Space Advisory Board asked that consideration be given to
re-routing the Coal Creek Trail off City Streets and onto Golf Course property. Recognizing
that safety and conflict with golf course operations were issues, Kevin Norby agreed to look
at possible peripheral routes. Joe Stevens commented that this was outside the scope of
Golf Course Funding.
Homeowners from the Springs sub-Division asked that steps be taken to avoid flooding from
golf course run-off.
A straw-poll was taken on re-numbering holes so that the current hole #9 becomes hole
#18. This does not have to be decided at the start of construction but the straw-poll showed
a majority of “undecided” with the remaining votes in favor of leaving the layout as-is.
Item VIII Status of Golf Course Reconstruction
The Board had a highly interactive discussion with Kevin Norby on the hole-by-hole plans
with good input from the golfing community present. Key points:
Good progress is being made on finalizing the hole-by-hole changes needed for
remediation of flood damage and implementing the improvement plan. The Board
authorized Ken Gambon and Dennis Maloney to represent the GCAB and
participate in all meetings with City Staff and the Contractors relating to the new
design. Time is of the essence so a Board Meeting will be held on 1/21 at 2pm and
prior to the City Council Special Meeting at 5:30pm. Additionally Chairman Gambon
asked Board members to reserve time on their calendars on 1/27 at 6:30PM for
another Board meeting to review the latest and hopefully final plan and estimate
prior to posting for City Council consideration on 2/4/2014.
Kevin Norby assured the Board that the intent of his design was to make the course
slightly more challenging for low-handicap players while keeping the same level of
challenge for the high-handicap players or casual golfers
The Board requested that tree removal be kept to a minimum but done where
needed to improve turf conditions. Joe Stevens agreed to update the tree removal
3
