Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Nlinutes <br />January 13, 2014 <br />Page 2 of 11 <br />Morgan added she wants to have more effort placed on saving the Miners Cabins. She <br />recommended moving them to a private location or a City location. <br />Welcome new Commission members <br />Stewart welcomed Deborah Fahey and Dana Echohawk. <br />Pre filing Conference — none <br />PUBLIC HEARING — Grant Request — 740 Front Street (Old Louisville Inn) <br />Robinson presented the information provided in the packet. He stated the applicant has <br />provided a scope of work and staff has itemized the scope to recommend eligible items for <br />grant funding. He added staff recommends approval of a grant for $181,000 to preserve the <br />original structure and $75,000 for the new structure, for a total grant approval of $256,000. <br />Stewart stated staff did a great job presenting the information in the staff report. <br />Fahey asked if the addition would allow for separation between it and the existing structure to <br />the south. <br />Robinson stated there would be a small separation. <br />John Gstalder, applicant, presented the details of the renovation and redevelopment project. <br />He explained the details of how the new construction will help stabilize the existing structure. <br />Stewart thanked the applicant and the design team for all of their work on this project. He <br />asked if the applicant had any questions. <br />Gstalder asked Robinson for more clarification of the grant specifics. <br />Robinson explained the distribution of grants. <br />Gstalder appreciated the clarification. He addressed Fahey's question about the separation <br />and said they are working with the owner to the south as well. <br />Stewart stated this appeared to be a very complete job and appreciated the architect's <br />attention to detail. <br />Echohawk stated her appreciation of the project but stated the basement was horrifying, so <br />she was happy the basement would continue to be worked on. She asked if the bar and <br />paintings would be retained. <br />Gstalder stated the bar would be but the mural might not. <br />Commission Questions and Comments <br />Stewart stated he agrees with staffs direction on how to proceed on this project. <br />
