•
LAHC Organization
There was much discussion of the appropriate responsibilities of LAHC
members. Currently LAHC members do all the work for all the events
themselves. Alice pointed out that Boards of Directors aren't ► d to take
on all work themselves. Also a need for more organization ; _`` = ► i.e.
committees with specific job descriptions which tie into the a► :.;:: T:x goals
and objectives. Suggested committees include: Building (tem.
term), Public Relations, Artist Outreach, Finance, Grants and : ` =rs. Alice
emphasized that Committee Chairs were not supposed to do aH the work, but
rather oversee committee activities and, as necessary, recruit non-board
volunteers as committee members. Formal re-organization into committees
was postponed for a regular monthly meeting.
There was also discussion of LAHC's priorities. The two basic functions
were recognized as supporting local artists and developing special arts events.
Members agreed that LAHC needed a standard policy for dealing with local
artists who request support for their artistic endeavors.
• Standard Policy for supporting local artists
Members discussed the components of a standard policy for supporting
local artists and agreed on the following:
"We will:"
list arts events on Arts Calendar
Provide guidance on grant writing
act as fiscal agents to grantees
screen potential users of the Arts Center
'We won't:"
create posters or advertising for private events
create advertising campaigns or purchase ads
provide labor for such events
Future components of support should also include providing insurance
for artists' events, as needed, and providing lists of potential volunteers. LAHC
still needs to develop standardized guidelines for use when screening potential
users of the Arts Calendar and the Arts Center.
Summary
Facilitator Alice lerley summarized the meeting and made '`
• recommendations for necessary next steps. She recommended that LAHC
establish committees and appoint committee chairs who are responsible for
recruiting volunteer committee members as necessary. These committees
chniilri have riaariv definPri rpgnnnsihiiitiPs the piirnnce of which are
achievement of the goals that were set at this meeting.
