Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 17, 2014
Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda
None heard.
Recognition of Previous Commission Members — Mike Koertje and John Griffin
Watson asked Stewart to present the Certificates of Recognition.
Stewart gave some words for John Griffin and Mike Koertje.
Koertje thanked the commission.
Griffin thanked the commission as well.
Pre filing Conference — 1309 Grant
Sam Hunsacker, owner, presented their future plans for the property. He stated he
would like to retain about 2/3's of the structure while adding a first and second floor
addition, while retaining the general street presence and heights. He would also like to
add a garage in the back.
Watson asked if he was going to retain the original materials.
Hunsacker said the windows and floor are original. He said there is vinyl siding over
and a new asphalt roof. He was not sure if there was original siding underneath the
vinyl siding.
Stewart asked if they had spoken with staff about landmarking and if they were
considering it.
Hunsacker said he was unsure about the process.
Stewart gave a background of the landmark process, including preservation bonuses
and grant funding.
Robinson gave details on the grant funding, including the building assessment.
Hunsacker asked if you could pick and choose where the money is used.
Robinson stated the building assessment creates a priority list for where the money can
be used.
Watson said even though the grant requires a matching, it is money you would need to
send anyhow. He added the roof should try and keep the same form and shape.
Hunsacker stated that is something they could consider.
Stewart gave some ideas for stepping the addition further back to allow for the street
facing character to stand out more. He also added in regards to the roof design.
