Ward I Applicant Questionnaire
4. What similarities and differences do you see between the role of a city council
member and these other positions or capacities in which you have served?
There is a substantive difference between advocacy and the role of Council. For these
many years, I have been a frequent advocate for policies and programs and have
spoken -- often with great passion -- on many issues before Council and Planning
Commission. That's what an advocate does.
But, as most good judges were once prosecuting or defense attorneys...I feel well suited
to be "elevated" to the dais. I am familiar with the way the City conducts business and
committed to ensuring that all opinions and points of view are heard and considered.
While I can promise no citizen that their position will prevail (as mine have not many,
many times in the past), I can promise that each citizen will be heard, their views well
considered and that they will always be treated with courtesy and respect.
8
