Memorandum
To: Historical Commission
From: Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator
Date: April 29, 2014
Re: Museum Coordinator’s Report
The Spring 2014 Louisville Historian will focus on the popularity of the game of bocce in
Louisville, with the lead article by Jennifer Strand. It will be mailed out to members soon.
Two recent programs tied in with the Winter 2014 Louisville Historian’s lead article about the
th
100 anniversary of the Northern Coal Field war and the battle at the Hecla Mine. The first
th
was Ron Buffo’s Brown Bag on March 6, which drew about 60 people, and the other was
Ron’s April driving tour of sites relevant to the Hecla conflict that had 40 people in attendance.
The Louisville History Foundation approved funding for a conservator, Lisa Capano, to clean
the antique safe at City Hall. She has been cleaning it and gave a talk/demonstration about
th
her work on April 25. Former Historical Commission member and current Foundation
member Marilyn Hunt has taken extensive photos of the safe before cleaning and during the
cleaning process.
The City of Louisville has posted a job announcement for a paid cataloging intern to start in
June. The intern will catalog historic photos from the Museum’s collection.
The Historic Preservation Commission approved funding for a brochure developed by
Museum volunteer Becky Harney on the topic of the twelve Louisville buildings that are on the
National Register.
Anne Robinson and Diane Marino will give walking tours of historic downtown Louisville again
this summer. The dates and times will be announced at a later date.
Museum Visitors Report (these statistics represent visits to the Museum itself, and not
inquiries that come in by email or phone): February visitors: 124; March visitors: 231; YTD:
489.
