Open Space Advisory Board
before the ditches start running again. The tree work is done at Hecla. The dead trees
are gone, but there were more left than staff had anticipated. No dead trees were left
standing (out of concern for safety), though some of the resulting logs were put in the
lake for aquatic habitat. A CIP was submitted to City Council for a landscape project at
Hecla for 2015 (~$30k). Three black benches were donated anonymously through the
memorial bench program.
2. The Coal Creek trail repairs are moving forward. There are no longer any mitigation
areas to be addressed. CDOT did the mitigation under Hwy 36. The section under the
railroad will be mitigated by the Ditch Company. This makes life simpler with FEMA.
3. Still finalizing the photo-point procedure and vegetation mapping for youth corp and
staff. Volunteers are doing photo-points this season.
4. Staff is mapping all signs in open space in preparation for wayfinding.
5. Aug 12 or Aug 26 (Tuesdays) are the two new dates for study session with City
Council. OSAB selected Aug 12th.
6. May 29, 6:30, in the Spruce Room at City Hall is the new Open Governance Training
session.
7. McCaslin underpass project ribbon cutting planned for July (no date yet).
8. Revising/updating old trail map.
9. Cows are grazing on Damyanovich Open Space.
10. Ordered new vault toilet for Harper Lake.
11. Added light brown coating on the inside of the underpass tunnel.
12. Lots of cheatgrass this spring and low prairie dogs numbers.
13. Still working on streamlining memorial bench program.
1. Laura saw a lot of mergansers on Harper Lake this winter.
2. Missy mentioned that the Camera reported that Boulder County Parks and Open
Space approved a conservation easement for a 3,400 acre ranch above Eldorado
Springs for $1.5 million. Missy commented that this seems like a great use of leveraging
money for conservation that the City of Louisville could emulate. Mike suggested we
could bring up conservation easements as a potential item for our study session. Jeff
suggested that we bring up actively tracking open space target properties. OSAB
enthusiastically agreed with both points.
3. Helen said that there is a small budget for OSAB (~$500). Helen opened up for
brainstorming for uses of that money. T-shirts were suggested for volunteers on
property and more fancy ones for OSAB for public events. The board agreed to donate
it to the education budget. Ember asked if we should make that permanent. The board
agreed not to, wanting to keep that flexibility open.
Patsy McEntee (697 Fireside Street) had one comment on Seans wayfinding
presentation. She thought they needed to add a citizen survey to the Multi-Modal

Transportation Assessmentto ask people how they want to use multi-modal systems for
the districts.
Survey & Wayfinding Subcommittee Updates
There wasnt a wayfinding subcommittee meeting, but the board wanted to discuss
wayfinding.
