Open Space Advisory Board
Mike asked if it is wise to actively direct people toward the City open space. He thought
it was rational and fair to direct people to the regional corridor (Coal Creek Trail), but
asked if we really want to direct people to Davidson Mesa and the dog park, which are
already very crowded.
Missy commented that she never assumed that there would be wayfinding to trailheads,
especially as most of the open space properties dont have parking.
Mike wants to differentiate between wayfinding within the trails to wayfinding for
vehicular traffic to the trails. The board agreed of the usefulness of the former, but felt
we should further discuss the latter.
Scott Belonger (697 Fireside Street) suggested that the more effective way to wayfind is
not to point to every destination, but to have established corridors and maps. Laura and
Missy agreed. Ember suggested that the mini kiosks might help with that.
Mike pointed out that the Coal Creek Trail might need further signage.
Missy thought that the color scheme of the Planning Departments Wayfinding
presentation was way too specific (with different colors for different streets blade signs).
The board and Patsy agreed.
Ember suggested that the board could do a webcam (on the helmet cam) record of the
trail system for the webpage for a virtual wayfinding presentation.
Ember and Diana will be working on the RFP for the City open space wayfinding. Helen
suggested that we need to act fast so we can coordinate with (and not be trumped by)
the Planning Departments wayfinding project. The board wants to keep the ball moving
fast, so the subcommittee will review the RFP and turn it around quickly.
X. Discussion Items for Next Meeting on June 11th:
a. Wayfinding Subcommittee Update.
b. Survey Subcommittee Update.
c. Open Space Capital Improvement Projects Update.
d. An update on the status of the Coyote Management Plan.
e. Review the list for the City Council study session.
XI. Adjourn
Helen
motioned to adjourn the meeting. Laura seconded. The meeting adjourned at
8:30 pm.
