of 44 mt -0O2e. Again, cost estimation is based on an electricity price of $.04 / kWh per Dave
Szabados.
6.2 Prioritized Sustainability Actions
This section of the report outlines actions the City of Louisville can take moving forward to
utilize the information assembled through the baseline energy study. Costs, emission reductions,
and policy levers for implementation are identified where possible.
6.2.1 Setting Sustainability Goals
The first step in developing a comprehensive sustainability plan after conducting an
inventory of CO2e emissions is to use that information to develop concrete, attainable goals. This
is generally done by targeting areas where there is significant emissions reduction potential as
well as economic and political feasibility to enact change. Once goals are established, strategies
to attain those goals can be developed and set in motion. The activity of goal setting should be a
joint venture between Louisville's City Council, Sustainability Advisory Board, and other
interested stakeholders.
The three examples of sustainable initiatives underway described above combined for a total
GHG emissions savings of 5,425 mt -0O2e, or 1.5% total GHG emissions attributable to
Louisville in 2012. Achieving substantial GHG emissions reductions is not easy. Setting the goal
of a 10% reduction in GHG emissions in ten years, based on this 2012 baseline inventory, may
be a realistic place to start. Appendix B includes a list of goals set by Golden, CO and a link to
the webpage detailing the goals set by Denver, CO. These may be useful for gauging what types
of goals are realistic and what timeline they can be enacted within.
6.2.2 Building Sector
Commercial, residential, and public energy use combine to make up 55% of total GHG
emissions in Louisville. The following set of sustainability initiatives is targeted at this major
emitting sector.
6.2.2.1 Low Cost /Low Initial Cost Initiatives
Windsource® Purchasing
27
25
