Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Nlinutes
June 16, 2014
• Additional parking along the railway
• Outlot in front of the Grain Elevator to protect the view to the Grain Elevator
• They will be rebuilding the previously evident porte cochere where the grain was
delivered
• The scales have been located and the Warembourg Family will be donating the
scales to be displayed
• The new Millsite Building will be the economic engine — retail restaurant on the
first floor and offices on the floors above
La Grave asked if there were elevations for the Millsite Building.
Hartronft showed the elevations and described the architectural elements they are
proposing such as roof forms, materials, etc.
La Grave stated he was very appreciated for them coming before the HPC during the
preliminary process. He added he was only concerned in the mass and height of the
proposed structure.
Fahey asked if the restrooms were still going to be located to the rear of the Grain
Elevator in the shape of the box car.
Hartronft stated they will be.
Fahey added placing plexiglass floor over the bins might be cool.
Hartronft stated it has been discussed and may be researched.
Haley stated she appreciated how the new building is in character with the existing and
believes the "no build" outlot is a great addition.
Stewart agreed with the other commissioners and wanted to know what the height of
the Grain Elevator is compared to the other buildings.
Hartronft stated the Grain Elevator is 50 feet and the other buildings will be 35 feet.
Stewart stated he wouldn't mind a little more modern contrast between the new and
existing but will leave it up to Hartronft. He added he likes the boxcar and the glass that
encloses the porte cochere.
Echohwawk stated she really liked the project and how they were sharing the interior as
well. She asked what the intended use of building one would be.
Randy Caranci, owner and applicant, addressed the question by stating they weren't
sure how they will use the additional space of building one, probably retail. He stated
the existing tenant, Jumping Rope, is doing a great job in the existing building.
Echohawk added the connection to the ACME Mine is very interesting.
