Memorandum
To: Historical Commission
From: Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator
Date: August 26, 2014
Re: Museum Coordinator’s Report
st
Over fifty people attended the Museum’s volunteer appreciation event on July 31. Fortunately,
there were some wonderful volunteers who helped me with this event. Thank you to the
Commission members for volunteering your time to be on the advisory board to City Council. And
thank you to Commission members Dan, Anne, Gladys, and Paula for attending the event!
Representatives from City Council and the Historic Preservation Commission also attended. I would
like to make this an annual event in order to regularly show our appreciation to the Museum
volunteers!
In July, I talked about Louisville history with children at the Louisville Recreation Center summer
camp. A total of 54 people participated. Children from a summer camp program at Louisville
preschool visited the Museum this summer.
I recently determined that in 2013, the Planning Dept. had me research 45 different historic
buildings because of landmarking applications, demolitions, or some other reason why the research
was needed. Also in 2013, there were 97 additional historic buildings that I researched because I
either (1) gave information about the buildings to members of the public upon request (such as
homeowners), or (2) obtained information about the buildings from members of the public or from
historical sources that I came across, often while doing other research.
As we gear up for the Brown Bag presentation about the making of the replica of Louisville on
thrd
September 4 and the opening of the replica itself to the public on October 3, there has been a
wonderful response to the most recent issue of the Louisville Historian about how Dick DelPizzo
made the replica. 829 copies were mailed out to the membership, with a total of 1100 copies
printed.
There is one walking tour, by Anne Robinson, left this summer! Please check the Library/Museum
website for details.
Museum Visitors Report (these statistics represent visits to the Museum itself, and not inquiries that
come in by email or phone): June visitors: 284; July visitors: 192; YTD: 1337.
