Call to Order —Chair Mike Frontzcak called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.
II. Roll call —Board members present: Shelly Alm, Mike Frontzcak, Neal Griggsmiller,
Erik Gustafson, Mark Newland, Ellen Toon, Beverlee White. Staff member present:
Chris Lichty. Guests: Joliette Woodson, City of Louisville; Paul Kuhn, MIG.
III. The agenda was approved by all members.
IV. The minutes from the May 1, 2014 meeting were approved.
V. Public Comment on Items not on the Agenda —No public present. Ellen commented
that there are several dead trees on the north side of South Boulder Road just east of
McCaslin. There are also many dead branches on the honeylocust trees in the Via
Appia median near Cottonwood Park. Chris said that City staff is usually responsible
for tree removal and pruning. Some of the budget for median renovation has been
diverted to the golf course irrigation improvements. He also commented that the golf
course project is progressing on schedule, and depending on weather, should reopen
late spring of 2015.
VI. South Street Underpass preliminary landscape plan — Joliette Woodman from the Public
Works Department and Paul Kuhn, contractor from MIG, presented a drawing of the
underpass landscape project with plant specifications. The structure will be built by the
railroad (BNSF) and the City will do the landscaping. Primary concerns expressed by
Chris and HFAB members were about long -term maintenance of the plant material and
replacement costs. Recommendations included reducing the plant density by about 15
percent; substituting Hackberry trees for Kentucky Coffee, which is very vulnerable to
snow breakage; reducing the quantity of Feather Reed grass; and planting shade trees in
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT • 749 MAIN STREET • LOUISVILLE, CO 80027
(303) 335.4735 • FAX (303) 335-4738
www.Iouisvilleco.gov
PARKS RECREATION SENIOR SERVICES OPEN SPACE FORESTRY TRAILS GOLF 2
