L <br />City at <br />- <br />Louisville <br />COLORADO • SINCE 1878 <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />AGENDA ITEM 1 <br />SUBJECT: <br />DATE: <br />ANNUAL REPORT — LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES <br />SEPTEMBER 9, 2014 <br />PRESENTED BY: JEANNIE SCHUMAN AND PAUL KARLZEN <br />LIST HIGHLIGHTS AND SUCESSES OF THE PAST YEAR: <br />1. Built three "Little Free Libraries ", placing one in Superior and two in Louisville. <br />We filled them with books with the help of the Louisville Library Foundation. <br />2. Partnered with Community Food Share to collect food in conjunction with the <br />summer reading program. <br />3. Provided lunch for the library staff in celebration of National Library Week. <br />4. Provided support for On The Same Page. <br />5. Distributed books to Louisville and Superior pre - schools for One Book For <br />Colorado. <br />6. Distributed free books around Louisville on World Book Night. <br />WHAT WORKED WELL FOR YOUR BOARD THIS PAST YEAR? <br />1. We worked to Build Community and Promote Literacy, two goals of the library's <br />strategic plan. <br />2. We partnered with Louisville businesses to build the "Little Free Libraries" and <br />with Superior and Louisville city governments for the installation. <br />3. We worked to support the library staff as they implemented the Strategic Plan. <br />4. We worked together as a board on projects that benefit Louisville /Superior <br />residents and promote literacy in both communities. <br />WHAT DID NOT WORK WELL FOR YOUR BOARD THIS PAST YEAR? <br />We feel we had a very successful year. <br />LIST PLANS /GOALS FOR NEXT YEAR: <br />1. Look at various ways to market the library to new residents and non - users. <br />2. Continue and expand our partnership with Community Food Share. <br />3. Market the library's new on -line learning program known as Gale Courses. <br />4. Continue to stock and care for the Little Libraries. <br />5.
