City Council
Meeting Minutes
October 7, 2014
COUNCIL COMMENT
Council member Moss stated although she supported the bond issue, Louisville
residents have been reaching out to the Boulder Valley School Board of Directors about
Louisville school issues, but have not received any response. Parents and residents of
Louisville are concerned. Superintendent Messinger stated the BVSD is absolutely
monitoring the enrollment at LES. They want to continue the process and maintain a
high quality of education.
Council member Stolzmann addressed increasing kindergarten and preschool
opportunities and hoped the Board continues to monitor this and provide preschools in
all schools. She stressed the importance of having space for people to meet and to
have various events such as Sock Hops. She noted the citizens' value historic
preservation, and voiced her hope the BVSD Board and Louisville could proactively
manage facilities, while maintaining aging infrastructure.
Council member Loo addressed a Louisville /Superior letter supporting a fully functioning
stadium at Monarch High School. The District's response was to add more aluminum
bleachers. BVSD Board Member Reed explained in the list of projects the Citizen's
Committee compiled, stadiums polled as the lowest priority. He noted it was the BVSD
Board's decision.
Superintendent Messinger stated the BVSD understands the desire for school stadiums,
however they do sit empty a lot of the time and people do not see it as a good
investment. There is a shared field between Boulder High and Fairview and a shared
field at Centaurus for the east Boulder County schools. Their commitment is to make
improvements on both campuses to make them team neutral so both teams feel
welcome. It is a matter of balancing priorities,
Mayor Muckle stated Louisville has made multiple requests to meet with the BVSD
Board, which have been ignored, not by the staff, but by the BVSD Board. BVSD Board
Member Reed stated he would carry the City's request to the BVSD Board.
Mayor Muckle stated his children went to all the Louisville schools and his family moved
to Louisville because of the school system.
Jim Pollicita, 2256 W. Hecla Drive, Louisville, CO stated he also has children in
Louisville Schools. He was a volunteer on the oversight committee and noted stadiums
received a lot of discussion, but education was given a higher priority.
PROPERTY ACQUISITION .638 ACRE PARCEL LOCATED
AT 1055 COURTESY ROAD
1.
