Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
October 8th, 2014
coordination and coyotes). Ember mentioned that Lafayette, Superior, and possibly Erie,
and the City of Boulder would be informed about Louisville's wayfinding initiative.
Laura recommended that we should meet with Superior's board only, because Louisville
and Superior need to coordinate our plans for a trail connection at the Davidson
Mesa /Highway 36 underpass to the trail network at Marshall Mesa. Our meeting with
Superior's open space board would be a good time to make sure our requests are in
concert before the 2015 Boulder County Trails Request submission deadline. Ember
commented that a submission on this project may not need to be tied to the submission
cycle, as the County indicated an interest in this project. Mike asked whether staff or
OSAB would be the major driver of that discussion. Ember commented that staff would
drive the project with OSAB support and review. Mike thought that the discussion with
Superior might be more productive and specific if Planning prepared some ideas for
alignments and planning before our meeting with Superior. Helen suggested a discussion
with staff at the February OSAB meeting, then a March meeting with Superior. The
board likes the idea of keeping the meeting with just Superior's board (not Broomfield's)
to keep the conversation focused on this particular issue.
3) Fall Open Government training for board members is October 27th.
4) 2015 Study Session with City Council is currently set for Sept 23rd. Ember will
request to move it forward so that it can fall before the Boulder County Trail's Request
submission deadline.
VIII. Board Updates:
1) Linda suggested a OSAB social night! The board thought we could start a meeting at
6:00, and then meet up afterward.
2) Tom observed that the church currently located at the Sam's Club location has
sandwich board advertisements on city property, such as the "powerline" trail and the
Coal Creek Trail. Ember will alert staff.
3) Mike noticed that there is an erosion ditch (drainage swale) that may become a social
trail in front of the restroom at Harper Lake. Ember said the contractor will be reseeding
and mulching the area.
4) Jeff advised the board to review last night's city council meeting minutes to learn
about a proposal to use the Conservation Trust -Land Acquisition Fund on improvements
at Cottonwood Park. Ember said she would email the board the relevant details as soon
as she learned about them.
5) Missy went to the Greenwood presentation last night and it was poorly attended.
Ember will follow up with staff. Ember shared that n 2015 the City will be looking into
more "adult" content for presentations.
6) Tom reported that a homeowner cut down trees at Davidson Mesa. Ember reports that
trees were cut down without permission at the Callahan Property as well. Ember reported
that the state is requiring the removal of some of trees on the eastern side of the dam on
Harper Lake.
7) Tom asked if there was a milfoil mitigation plan at the Warembourg Fishing Pond.
Ember resorts that consultants are going to monitor the milfoil density over the winter
and explore mitigation options in the spring.
