Library Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes —DRAFT
September 11, 2014
VII. New Business
1) New Initiatives
a) Meeting with staff
Board members have expressed an interest in leveraging social media to reach out
to the community. Input from staff is viewed as an important component of this
effort, so the Board wants to know who on staff is most interested in social media
and are there any sites in particular that staff believes should be used. Beth noted
that before any final decisions are made, we will need to check with the City to
make sure our efforts conform to social media policy. Using components of the
new website, it is likely that publishing to social media content sites can be
aggregated.
b) How to reach new residents (QR codes, market segmentation)
Beth informed the Board that there is a webinar on November 23 regarding
collecting demographic data. She also noted that the Broomfield Public Library
served as a beta test site for a Gale Analytics -on- Demand. Beth contacted Gale
about the cost, which is approximately $9000 per year. This may be something
that the consortium may be able to purchase.
Paul noted that he is familiar with some free products that are available, such as
Google Fusion Maps. He could analyze data using addresses of current cardholders
to help locate areas that are not being well - served. Beth noted that she will talk
to staff about the possibility of exporting address data to Excel from the Library's
ILS (Millennium).
VIII. Ongoing Business
1) Zonta / Community Food Share
Alicia spoke with Marta who collects books from all over the county and distributes to
different food shares. Marta is very willing to collect materials from the Library. Alicia
wants to create some a label identifying the Library Foundation as the donors of the
materials. Alicia also will be the point of contact to coordinate pickup from Library, put
labels in, get the process going, and report back in November.
2) Mobile Library
Jeannie noted that we are at the end of the outdoor event season and need to think
about plans for a mobile library next year. Jeannie suggested that Board members
research different options for a mobile library and discuss these at the next meeting.
3) Maintaining the Little Libraries
After a brief discussion, Board members agreed to participate in a rotating schedule for
the three little libraries. Jeannie created a sign -up sheet for board members.
4) 2014 'On The Same Page'
Beth noted that the Human Microbiome discussion on September 10 was well - attended.
The event was recorded, and we may be able to include it on channel 8. This year's
book, Pandora's Lunchbox, continues to circulate well. There are two scheduled
