One will be at `Stories on Stage'
where she will be part of the `talk back' segment, and the other is the final event that
will be held at the new Louisville Alfalfa's Market community room. Title
selection is in process and the public will be able to vote on the three finalists. The
selected book will be distributed April 13 -27.
IX. Director's Report
1) Summer Reading Results
This year, the Library's modified summer reading format had mixed results.
Participation by children was very good, with more than 1200 kids. Participation by
adults and teens was down. A post - program survey indicates that there are some
elements of the new program that participants really liked, so next year's program will
be a hybrid utilizing some of the best ideas of this year's program along with the
traditional incentive -based programs of the past. Also next year, the Library will partner
with BVSD to determine if the summer reading program has any benefit to maintaining
or improving reading scores in younger children.
2) Budget Process Update
a) 2013 Library Research Survey, submission to City Manager
Beth noted that the Library's budget packet also included some statistics from the
most recent LRS survey. City Council will vote on the final budget in November, as
required by statute.
3) LSTA Makers pace Grant
Initial information that the LSTA was looking to award grants for early literacy turned
out to be true, and the Library's efforts in partnership with the Space Science Institute
to obtain funds for the new makerspace were unsuccessful. The Library Foundation may
be able to offer some funding in 2015.
4) Other Updates
Website Redesign:
Progress continues on the City -wide website update. Due to technical issues, Karen was
not able to preview the site for the Library Board. Handouts were distributed and
discussed.
Expansion of the Flatirons Library Consortium:
There are several other area libraries interested in joining the FLC. Directors from the
different libraries are meeting regularly and have a meeting set for October. In order to
take advantage of price discounts for such items as research databases, the FLC will
need to be set up as a legal entity.
