Youth Advisory Board
Meeting Minutes
DATE
Mandy brought up that there is a meeting o n March 10th City Council Work Session,
which would be a great meeting to present our goal of a new Aquatics Center. The
board is going to repeat the presentation that they presented to all of the other boards
and commissions. Isabella said that all of the members should attend to give a good
impression to the City Council that the board really is serious about their project. Jay
talked about recreational expansions, and that Council may decide to make the
Aquatics Center into a Rec Center Expansion, Senior Center Facility Expansion, and
new Aquatic Facility to help push the bond issue through. Isabella asked if the board
should hang up their flyers onto the buildings and businesses of the city. Jay Keany, a
Liaison, said that it is probably not a good idea, just because word of mouth can do the
same job, with the same effect, and with less resources. Mandy said that the members
should go and talk to their friends about the ideas and gain support. Jay said that the
board should start a binder to chronicle all of the designs that the board is considering.
Starting to look at those things will be a good first step in the design phase so that we
can have a plan. The board obliged. Jay also said that we should consider what the
toddlers want, because they would attend the facility a lot. Jay mentioned that we
should ask the community what they wanted, so that we can get an educated set of
data to base our project on. Another comment by Jay was that the board should look up
current Aquatic Facilities as well as develop their own ideas for the Facility. Madison
said that she talked to her friends on the Dolphins swim team, and said that they wanted
a longer swimming pool, like 50 meters, and a 12 foot diving board to accompany it,
something Louisville currently lacks. Mitchell asked if he could present the idea of the
Aquatics Facility to his Social Studies class. The Liaisons gave the green light. Tyler
then asked if all members could present to their classes/schools about the Aquatics
Facility. The Liaisons said that presenting to the students and teachers of the
community would be a great way to spread the word and let people know.

The members will be volunteering at the Royal Ball, which is their monthly volunteer
project for the month of February.

Chairperson Isabella McHugh addressed the project for March, which is the Saint
Patrick’s Day Dinner.

Mandy said that at our April meeting with City Council, one person will have written the
presentation. She then asked for a volunteer, and Isabella McHugh volunteered t o make
the power point presentation. She also briefly went over the process of the presentation
itself with each YAB member presenting a slide of the power point .

Isabella went to the Wayfinding Open House meeting. She commented on what she
wanted at the meeting, but also observed. The officials talked about signage for trails.
They also talked about trail intersections. They asked about creating a roundabout, with
trails at the center to guide where you are going. Another idea was stripe-following,
where the citizens could follow the color of the trails that they wanted to follow by
looking at stripes on the ground.
