Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 16, 2015
Trice stated it is up to the HPC.
Haley thought the growth maps would be good to give to the fourth grade class.
Discussion — 2015/2016 Goals /Council Study Session
Trice presented staff's report. She reminded the board of the upcoming study session
happening on April 28th. She stated the big goal is the preservation master plan. She
discussed other items listed as future goals.
Koertje asked if we still did an annual report to City Council.
Trice stated she was working on something for Council but was unsure if it was the
same format.
Discussion ensued regarding subcommittees and other potential goals.
Koertje stated he would like to discuss about the loan program happening outside of the
preservation master plan. He believes that needs to happen sooner rather than later.
Haley stated the goals should be prioritized between short term and long term.
Trice states we are hoping to have the preservation master plan adopted by this
summer so we aren't too far off.
Discussion — Preservation Month Activities and Awards
Trice stated this was brought up at the last meeting. She recommended we do a plaque
ceremony for our most recent landmarks.
Watson asked how we would do that.
Trice stated we do them all on one day, one morning, possibly a weekend, with the
Mayor, and a large pair of scissors.
Watson thought that was a great idea.
Stewart said the other option is to do a Council meeting presentation.
Haley asked which one gets more publicity.
Stewart liked the outreach opportunity.
Trice discussed the preservation awards and showed the certificates we have
presented in the past.
Stewart stated he thought that was a great thing to do when we didn't have any other
outreach, but thought we are doing good now and don't need to do that anymore.
