Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 16, 2015
Probable Cause Determination — 721 Grant
Watson asked if there were any conflicts of interest.
None were heard.
Trice presented the information in the packet. She added staff has found probably cause
through architectural and social contributing elements.
James Dickinson, owner, presented. He stated he and his wife believe the property is historic
and they are interested in landmarking the structure. He said they want this structure to be a
stop of a landmark tour.
Watson asked the applicant why they are interested in doing an historic structure assessment.
Dickinson stated they wanted to go back to the original wood floors and they are worried about
how stable the foundation is. He said they have 3 ceiling heights on the first floor. They are
hoping they can figure out how to restore the house and what portions of the house are
original.
Fasick asked if he knew about the landmarking and grant program.
Dickinson said he knew about it.
Fasick asked staff if she could give him the grant amounts he would be eligible for.
Trice gave a breakdown.
Fasick said she would love to see some of the original details come back, such as the siding.
Dickinson stated he has seen area behind the existing siding which shows the original siding is
still there.
Fahey stated she believes this is a very significant building for the city. She states she has
taken kids on tours by this house. She stated it structurally looks the same and would like to
see the siding restores.
Dickinson stated he would like to see an addition to the back, but that si about it. No change to
the front of the house.
Discussion
Koertje stated this is a great building and is eligible architecturally and socially. He believes
there is probably cause. He made a motion to find probable cause.
Fahey seconded the motion.
Motion approved 6 -0.
