Mohr asked that a feasibility study be completed
by staff with regard to the undergrounding issue.
^OUNTY SALES TAX Stahl informed Council that on Tuesday, April
13th, the Boulder County Commissioners held a
public hearing and discussed imposing a County-
wide 1$ sales and use tax. At the conclusion of
that hearing, the Commissioners set a Special
County Election for May 16, 1989. Council may
want to discuss the election issues and the
impacts/benefits for Louisville.
Mayor Fauson stated that Council should look at
the proposed County resolution carefully.
Anderson stated that there was much concern at the
hearing on the resolution by the Commissioners and
felt it was important to look at the impacts for
Louisville carefully.
Mohr concurred and moved with Ferrera seconding to
table the motion until May 2, 1989. Motion passed
7-0.
BUILDING DEMOLITION - AQUARIUS
PROPERTIES OPEN SPACE This item was pulled from the Consent Calendar to
discuss the use of that property as the question
is often asked if this property could be used for
various activities including a senior center.
Mohr asked if staff could clarify the intended use
of this property since it is being purchased by
lottery funds.
Stahl stated that there are a couple of issues.
The plans are to demolish the property primarily
due to the structural problems that exist on that
particular building that the City purchased
through a lease-purchase agreement from the
Aquarius group approximately seven years ago. The
total proceeds that the City receives from the
lottery go toward the purchase of this property
that must be used for parks, public open space.
Council does not have the discretion to lease it
long-term to a private organization whether it be
profit or non-profit. The building is not
structurally sound and there is a liability that
exists. Therefore, staff is requesting permission
for demolition.
Mohr moved and Ferrera seconded that the amendment
to the Aquarius Development land purchase contract
authorizing the City to demolish the existing
structure at no additional cost unless default on
the purchase agreement occurs. Motion carried 7-
0.
9
