Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 27, 2015
No second was given. The motion failed.
Haley stated her basis was due to the structure being located in the old
town overlay and believes the era represents the first time there was mass
produced architecture. She also believes this structure creates a sense of
place on the street and believes the loss of this structure would affect the
character of the street. She stated there could be some creative
opportunities to add onto the structure to continue the mid - century ranch
component of the structure.
Fahey stated she would like to add to the social history of the structure.
She knew a few of the Schmidt family members and appreciated their social
story as a family unit.
Haley agreed and stated the long term stay of the family was impressive.
Fasick agreed.
Fahey made a motion to place a 180 day stay, dating back to the time of
application.
Echohawk seconded the motion.
Trice asked if the commission wanted to appoint an architect.
Watson stated that would be done after the vote.
Koertje asked for a friendly amendment to review the application each
month to decide if the stay needs to remain.
Stewart stated he would support this amendment.
Fahey and Echohawk agreed to the amendment.
Motion passed 6 -1. Watson voting no.
Watson asked if anyone would like to work with the applicant. Since no one
came forward he agreed to volunteer to assist the applicant.
Update - Preservation Master Plan
Trice presented staff's report. She mentioned the updated goals and
objections will be reviewed by Council tomorrow night at the Council
meeting. She stated she is seeking volunteers on assisting her with
speaking to other boards and commissions.
Fahey stated she would probably show up at all of them. She asked why
the cultural council as not included on the list.
