L Cityoj
Louisville
Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
June 15 2015
COLORADO i SINCE 1878
• The Board expressed their thanks to Staff and to Landscapes Unlimited for all
the work put in on this major project. In turn, Joe Stevens thanked the Board
for their support and input since the Board was created and particularly through
the unexpected turmoil of the flood and the accelerated renovation program.
• New areas of native grass will increase the difficulty on some holes and may
affect pace of play for errant shots. This will be monitored and adjusted as
needed.
• There are still some out -of -play areas that need to be addressed cosmetically
and some fairways need more time to grow in before they are perfect. A
"preferred lie" local rule may be invoked until grow -in is complete with
tournament local rules set as agreed between the Head Pro and tournament
organizers.
• The changes on HWY36 mean that the Coal Creek sign and the CU Football
sign are no longer visible from the highway. The Golf Staff are excited and
enthusiastic about the course as it prepared to open and the GCAB fully
supports them in putting out the message that Coal Creek is back and better
than ever.
5. Staff Update on outstanding course issues:
o Work is in hand to clean up the remaining damaged areas. Sod is being laid in the
bare area alongside the fairway on hole #3. The water level on the pond on hole
#14 had to be lowered to fix a broken pipe. That is now complete however and the
pond surrounds will be seeded. Sod will be laid on the bad areas by the tees on
hole #10. Several of these areas had been seeded but the recent heavy rains
washed out the seed, requiring the use of sod. Some areas used as service roads
during the reconstruction will be grassed in.
o The fairways will continue to grow in. Many are in excellent condition but some
require more time. The starter will ensure that golfers' expectations are set
correctly and advise them that a lift- and -place rule is to be used where there is
poor turf.
o The punchbowl green will not be mature enough to open for the Grand Re- opening
Ceremony. Joe's expectation is that it will be ready in August. David B is
considering how and if to charge for its use. An example was given of a similar
punchbowl feature that made a nominal charge for its use and provided an antique
putter plus a souvenir ball that the user would keep.
o The practice putting green by the clubhouse and the practice chipping area are in
good shape. David B is already giving youth lessons on the driving range. The
nursery green is coming along well and is ready to be seeded.
o The cart path on the south side of the Dillon Underpass cannot be replaced
immediately as this area forms part of the Federal Highway Authority work to fix
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT • 749 MAIN STREET • LOUISVILLE, CO 80027
(303) 335 -4735 • FAX (303) 335 -4738
www.louisvilleco.gov
PARKS RECREATION SENIOR SERVICES OPEN SPACE FORESTRY TRAILS GOLF
