ITEM #5b
Here are some of our concerns with regard to this wild grass.
1. Safety of Children -
We now have 8 small children in 4 of the 6 houses living around this wild grass, a much higer
density of children than the Coal Creek Ranch average. In the afternoons and evenings they
would be in their back yards and now we worry about West Nile virus carrying mosquitos,
rodents and poisonous snakes migrating to our yards and biting our children. Again, the HOA
would not allow one of our neighbors to maintain such an unsafe yard.
2. Fire Hazard -
Whether it's legal or not, golfers smoke and carelessly flick their cigarette butts anywhere they
choose. With the end state of this wild grass aimed at being brown, dead thatch, the fire
danger to our homes becomes extreme. These wild areas should be left to non -home adjacent
areas.
The golf course has no plans to mitigate dead leaves in the fall, further adding to the hazard,
Additionally, the 4th of July fireworks are launched within 100 feet of this patch and during
drought seasons, could present an additional fire hazard.
3. Aesthetics from our houses -
We purchased our home because of the manicured golf - course in our back yard, a neighbor with
a beautiful "yard ". We did not opt to move to a wild looking open space, if our neighbors let
their yards go this ugly, the HOA would immediately rectify by forcing them to fix their un-
tamed yard. We spend lots of money on our homes and landscaping, the golf course should
keep wild areas like this away from our homes.
The golf course and the houses around them were designed together by architects so that they
worked both visually and functionally. These areas are not well 'maintained' - they are full of
weeds (some weeds lately are the nasty toxic type), tree branches, etc. Mowing on a regular
basis would remove the need to control the growth of weeds.
The point has been made by Golf Course staff that part of the reason this was added to our
homes and not the vast majority of other homes on the course was to keep golfers away. We
have not had huge issues with golfers hitting our homes or coming on our property.
4. Pace of Play —
It appears the pace of play is affected right out of the gate. Golfers now spend much more time
looking for balls that will never be found on their second shot on the course, We never had this
issue in the past, folks that hit near our houses would just find their ball and move on. Now
there are long delays and very frustrated golfers. We are actually starting to see golfers cutting
through the rough on their way from #1 to #2 - and are starting to wear a path - the rough just
doesn't make sense along this row of houses.
Photos of affected area follow on remaining pages:
10
