Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
July 20, 2015
Stewart stated we all can be trained.
Watson stated it could be more for complex projects.
Russ reminded everyone this discussion is good, but it is part of the preservation
master plan. This type of action would require an ordinance amendment.
Trice reminded the commission this item is going past their "close of meeting"
deadline. She asked if the discussion on the budget could be pushed back.
Russ recommended they look at the budget item now so staff has time to provide
your comments to the City Manager.
Discussion — HP 2016 Budget
Koertje asked why are repairs and maintenance in the HPF budget.
Trice stated that is a line item for City owned historic buildings.
Koertje stated it can be taken out of other funds.
Russ asked if that is what the commission wanted to do.
Watson reminded the commission this line item would include work being done to
structures such as the Austin - Niehoff building.
Stewart stated he understands the need, but doesn't want this line item to
supersede the need for a grant request.
Fahey stated the Parks Department should take on this cost.
Russ stated he understands the commission wants each department to take on
the maintenance of their own buildings.
The commission agreed with that statement.
Watson asked what the property acquisition line item is for.
Trice stated it was for the Grain Elevator.
Watson asked what other items we should discuss.
Trice stated we should discuss updates from staff.
Fahey wants a discussion on the roofing materials before the preservation
master plan goes to City Council.
Watson suggested we move that forward to be the first time after the hearings.
