Lathrop:

I think I tend to agree with
Councilman Hedding to a certain
extent. However, I feel that we
need to emphasize education in a
positive light. It sorrows me that
we have a member of our Council that
feels so strongly that we need to
have a vote on a resolution. I
don't want to vote "yes" without
saying that I sympathize to a great
extent his comments.

Davidson:

I echo that. I think the Boulder
Valley School District has a lot of
problems and looking to the Federal
government is not a resolution. It
would be nice, if they would move
with equal endeavor to fix their
other problems, as they do with
looking for increased taxes and
money from the Federal government.
I think substantial money can be
saved now that the "Cold War" is
over and we have a rather
substantial deficit. It's time for
local school districts to get their
act together.

Ali. in favor, except Hedding and Howard.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Howard stated that the City of Louisville needs to come to some
kind of resolution of this matter. He stated that staff was
directed to take the items form the Economic Development work plan
that were most applicable for a city of our size and budget and try
to get a regular City employee that would work for the City
Administrator, that the City Administrator will hire to carry on
with the work. He reviewed the work program (SEE ATTACHED).

Howard moved that Council direct the City Administrator to
establish a 20/week City position of Business Facilitation
Specialist, to advertise the position, interview, and hire the
person, as soon as possible, within the realms of the Budget.
Seconded by Mayer.

Mayer suggested that Council think about program evaluation with
regard to this project.

Sisk hoped that the City would solicit applications from local
people, so the retraining process wouldn't be as significant.

Roll call was taken. Motion passed by a 7-0 vote.

RESOLUTION NO. 2, SERIES 1993 - SUPPORTING FUTURE OF FITZSIMMONS
IN]iTIATIVE

43
