Library Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes —DRAFT
July 9, 2015
F. Library Foundation Report: S. Lancton
Sherri reported that little happened at the last meeting and there was nothing
noteworthy to report to the Board.
1) Library Makerspace (J. Shuman)
During visits with local business organizations, Jeannie reported that there is a lot
of interest in the project and many more leads coming out of the meetings.
However, no funding has been received thus far, but the four Foundation
members on the subcommittee are continuing to set meetings. Also, Beth and
Becky Campbell met with Nick Cady, an engineering teacher from Centaurus High
School who provided many good suggestions about what equipment to purchase.
He also proposed that there are some students in his program that would also be
able to help with recommendations and possibly training and programming.
G. Superior Town Board Report: D. Williams
Debra noted that the Town Trustees are also on vacation and that June 23rd was the last
meeting. Meetings will resume on July 27th. Debra did talk about the Superior Youth
Advisory Committee and their efforts to put on summer reading events in Community
Park on Wednesdays from 10am -12pm. The Mayor, firefighters, police, Trustees, and
others are involved in reading to children.
IX. Director's Report
A. Flatirons Library Consortium (FLC) Expansion
• So far, the existing FLC has received commitments from Lafayette and Longmont to
join
o Westminster has not yet made a commitment but they have until August 14 to
do so to be included in this round
• The directors from Louisville, Broomfield, and Boulder are meeting to align current
practices prior to the expansion
• Each library will remain an independent municipal library, but the expanded
consortium will provide many of the benefits of a district including lower costs for
items such as subscription databases
B. The Library's long- standing Read -to -Rover program is expanding from once a month,
with pre - registration, to weekly on a drop -in basis. There will be three dogs in total
including a Great Dane.
C. The Library is now actively involved in promoting the Colorado Talking Book Library to
patrons. Information is posted on the website and programming is scheduled to
introduce the service to the community.
D. Cynthia Hurd Memorial Donation
Beth noted that Library staff has taken up a collection on behalf of one of the victims of
the Charleston SC church shooting, long -time librarian Cynthia Hurd. Beth asked if any
Board members would like to be included in the Library's memorial donation.
E. Beth noted the current Louisville Art Association exhibit in the Library gallery and its
theme of `reading.'
F. Beth noted the full slate of upcoming events for Summer Reading listed on the July
calendar.
