Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
August 12th 2015
liked the "fine print," since the Leave No Trace presentation last year taught us that
explaining the reasons for rules it will likely improve compliance and reduce phone call
questions to staff. Mike liked the border except when there is more detail, then it gets
too busy for him. Helen suggested that they be "punchier" or maybe there could be two
version of some signs (expository signs and more terse versions). The board seem to
like the bands on top, but didn't love the "REMINDER" category since it seemed sort of
wishy- washy, the board thought there only needed to be three categories. Laura asked
the board members if they'd like the mountains border more if it was smaller or fainter
( "watermarked "). Ember suggested that maybe she could ask the consultants to three
more mock ups: one with the mountains shown as a watermark, one with smaller
mountains, and one with no mountains but just a simple green band. The board liked
the icons, Missy commented that they will especially help if diverse bodies are making
the signs.
XI. Discussions Items for Next Meeting on September 9th —
A. Visit from Ranger Tom
B. Graduate Student Research Presentation
C. Presentation of Draft Preservation Master Plan by the Planning Department
D. Results of Davidson Mesa Dog Off -Leash Survey
E. Select an Advisory Board & Topics for a Joint Board Meeting in 2016
F. Helen asked Missy to draft a memo about acquisition alternative options and
conservation easements, and concerns about active property tracking that we could
share with City Council. She could send it to the board for review over email. Missy
asked for Chris' help with the document.
G. Helen asked Ember to arrange for the property review /ranking session for
maybe October. Helen asked Ember to look more closely at the map to get the status
on some of those mystery properties, if possible.
H. Jeff mentioned that City Council is going to look at boards and commissions in
October. They are going to look at possibly adding an advisory board for parks and /or
recreation, or possibly re- arrange a few of the boards' duties.
XII. Adjourn —
The meeting adjourned at 9:20 pm.
6
