• Retain simplicity, equity and fairness within rate structure across the
district.
• Under the current proposal at several stations along the US 36 Corridor a
rider would be charged three different fares for the identical trip in the
identical vehicle with the same number of stops, depending on which bus
happens to arrive next which is neither simple nor equitable - charge the
same local fare for both the rail and BRT services in all FasTracks
corridors regardless of the transit mode.
The current proposed fare structure provides more complexity for BRT fares and
inequity across the system. The City Council believes strongly that FasTracks
improvements should be charged the same fare in all FasTracks corridors, even
if that results in a slightly increased fare over the proposed $2.60 local fare. This
is our FasTracks investment for the near future and it is not appropriate to charge
a local fare for FasTracks rail corridors, yet charge over twice the amount for the
FasTracks BRT improvements. Especially when the BRT investment is much
cheaper to build, requires a lower subsidy/trip, has higher farebox recovery and
generates more revenue per rider than rail (based on 2013 RTD report on
service performance). It is essential that RTD's fare policy leverage the
substantial investment in the US 36 corridor express lanes infrastructure and
maximize ridership for the US 36 BRT service as it will serve as a framework for
future BRT corridors throughout the district.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide input. The City looks forward to
continuing the conversation on how best to serve the residents of Louisville in
anticipation of the new US 36 BRT service and fare study recommendations.
.Sincerely,
Bob Muckle, Mayor Ak VayorProTem
y Ke , City Council Chris , City C uncil
Susan Loo, City Council Jeff Li .on, City Council
Ashley Stoltzmann, City Council
