Open Space Advisory Board Meeting Minutes (Continued- Public Comments)
Wednesday. (I'II go to the doctor's office with a heavy mask on, which protects from
particulate allergens but not from perfumes which are a major problem for me, and are
sure to be present at the meeting). I don't think the escalation I've experienced in my
allergies in the last two years was caused primarily by the weeds, but they don't help.
My correspondence with Chris Prah and the exterminator are below.
Thank you very much for the OSAB's attention to the weed situation.
Nickie Dumke
1877 Polk Ave
Louisville, CO 80027
From: Nickie Dumke
Sent: Thursday, April 05, 2012 8:19 AM
To: Chris Prah
Subject: Vole Decision
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your email. When you were here last week, you probably noticed that our
lawn looks much better. There is plenty of new grass growing in the vole tracks that
used to be chewed down to the soil. We plan to clear 10 feet behind our fence.
However, in his email below, the exterminator said this will help our chances of being
vole -free, but the voles could be back in the fall if the vegetation on the bike path open
space is not cleared completely.
Thank you for the information you sent about voles in Colorado and diseases carried by
rodents. Frankly, I am mystified at how you can send that information and have made
the decision to NOT clear the vegetation. The CSU information about voles in Colorado
says that baiting is a short -term answer and habitat management is the real way to
eliminate voles; the disease information supports the idea that rodents can transmit
serious diseases. As I told you before, our sons are grown, but they certainly liked to
pick up little critters when they were young. I am not "giving up" on addressing the
health issues of rodents just because our landscape is doing much better and our
children are grown. There are small children around, and if I were their mothers, I'd like
the CITY (and anyone else who could) to help me protect them from disease.
Thanks for taking the time to look into this issue, and I hope you will reconsider your
decision if /when I'm able to draw more attention to this problem.
Nickie Dumke
From: Kolbin Bertilson
Sent: Tuesday, April 03, 2012 4:53 PM
7
