ORDINANCE NO. 1418, SERIES 2003 -AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING CERTAIN PROPERTY AS BEING REQUIRED FOR THE PUBLIC USE FOR THE HIGHWAY 42/96TM STREET CONNECTION PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE ACQUISITION THEREOF THROUGH NEGOTIATION AND/OR CONDEMNATION - 1st reading - set public hearing 4/01/03 Sisk called for City Attorney introduction. City Attorney Sam Light read Ordinance No. 1418, Series 2003. MOTION: Brown moved that Council send out Ordinance No. 1418, Series 2003 for publication and set a public hearing for April 15, 2003, seconded by Levihn. All in favor. DISCUSSION/DIRECTION - COUNCIL AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE WITH BOULDER VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR ATHLETIC FIELD IMPROVEMENTS AT MONARCH HIGH SCHOOL AND AUTHORIZATION TO STAFF TO NEGOTIATE AN AGREEMENT FOR SAME Sisk called for Staff presentation. City Manager Bill Simmons reported on discussions relative to the City's participation with the Boulder Valley School District for Monarch High School athletic field improvements. This would consist of covering the field with artificial turf and related work. If approved by Council, an agreement would be negotiated with the Boulder Valley School District that would allow the City to schedule use of the fields for City activities in exchange for a financial contribution. The amount that is available for this purpose from the use tax collected for school assistance will be determined and recommended by the Finance Committee. The Committee to negotiate the agreement will include Mayor Pro Tem Chuck Sisk and the City Manager, and after the terms have been agreed upon with the School District, a formal agreement will be forwarded for Council consideration. Simmons stated the cost of the project is estimated at $700,000 and noted the school assistance use tax sunsets in December 2003. Sisk called for public comment. There were no comments.
