Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 21, 2008
Kron noted this was a first step in the process and that a public meeting to get additional
input will be scheduled.
Resolution No. 2, Series 2008 - A Resolution Recommending the City Council
Place a Question on the 2008 Ballot Regarding the Implementation of a 1/8% Sales
Tax Dedicated to Historic Preservation
Muth reminded members that at the March meeting they asked for staff to prepare a
resolution that would list how preservation funds could be spent should the City Council
place a ballot question on the 2008 ballot to create a new historic preservation sales tax.
Muth presented a draft resolution for the HPC's consideration.
Members reviewed the resolution and asked that the order of the list of possible uses for
such funding be changed slightly, but otherwise agreed to the draft.
McMenamin moved to approve the resolution as amended, Whiteman seconded the
motion. It was approved unanimously.
Update Louisville Middle School Demolition -Joint City Council/Boulder Valley
School Board Meeting, May 7, 3:30 PM, Louisville Middle Schocx
Muth reported that the joint meeting of the BVSD School Board and the City Council is
scheduled for May 7th. She noted the recent article in the Louisville Times that states
clearly that the facade demolition is going to happen. She stated that Mayor Sisk asked
her to ask the HPC if the meeting should still take place or if it would do more harm than
good.
Koertje stated that he felt strongly that the meeting should go on if for no other reason
than to have a chance for the community to address the school board here in Louisville.
He added that there are other historic schools on which work is expected in the next
phase of the bond issue and he felt the school board should understand the community's
preservation concerns.
Tofte agreed with Koertje that the meeting should definitely be held.
Members were in agreement that canceling the meeting would make it worse for the
community and the City Council.
Muth stated she would report back to the Mayor the thoughts of the HPC.
Lewis thanked Koertje for all his work on this issue.
Discussion/Direction/Action -Preservation Ordinance Amendments
Recommend continuation of item to May 19
Muth reported she and the City Attorney had not had a chance to address the changes
from the last meeting and requested that the item be continued to May 19. Members
were in agreement.
