Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 21, 2008
Discussion/Direction/Action - 1932 Water Treatment Plant Letter to City Council
(tentative June 17 City Council Meeting)
Members reviewed and approved with some changes the letter written by Koertje and
Tofte for the City Council. Members agreed to present the letter to the City Council as a
part of the June 17 Council meeting packet, not to present it at the May 27 Study
Session with City Council.
Update - 836 & 844 Main Street
Muth reported that she had received an email from Andrew Muller that they have no
plans yet for 820, 836, and 844 Main Street. The buildings are currently fully leased and
operational.
Muth added that before any significant changes are permitted on the buildings the
owners will have to get an approved Planned Unit Development (PUD) from the City and
nothing has been submitted for the site. She will let members know if a PUD application
is made.
Discussion/Direction -Non-Contiguous Historic District
Tofte noted this was added at her request. Members decided to postpone this discussion
until the June meeting.
Landmark Applications - 1116 LaFarge Avenue Approved 4/15/08
Plaque Design Discussion
Muth reported that the City Council unanimously approved the landmark application for
1116 LaFarge Avenue. She noted that the City has no plaques for landmarks and
presented some ideas.
Members thought they might be able to find a CU student who could design a plaque for
the HPC. Whiteman will look into it and report back.
Demolition Request Review - 1024 LaFarge Avenue
(public hearing set for May 19, 2008)
Muth reported that a demolition permit for 1024 LaFarge Avenue had been submitted
and the review committee has placed a stay on the request until a public hearing could
be held. That public hearing will be at the May 19th HPC meeting.
Planning Department Referrals -None
Updates:
• Ms. Downer's Cabins -None
• Mine Marker Program -None
• "Why Preserve" & "Build Green" Pamphlets -None
Items from Staff
• May 22 Historic Preservation/Economic Development Forum
Muth reported that the City will be hosting a forum May 22 at 7:00 PM in City Hall
with speakers from Arvada, Littleton, Golden, and Boulder to discuss how their
communities have created systems that encourage both preservation and
economic development.
