Historical Commission
Minutes
March 5, 2008
5. An untranscribed journal in the Museum's collection is now being
transcribed by the granddaughter of the man who wrote the journal,
former Louisville resident Anthony Romeo, who was a union organizer
during the mining strike of 1910-1915.
6. Bridget will be attending upcoming museum conferences organized by
AAM (American Association of Museums) and ANFRM (Association of
Northern Front Range Museums).
7. The photo reproduction policy was discussed in connection with a recent
inquiry about acquiring historic photos from the Museum's collection for
purposes of putting up large images of them on interior walls of a building
downtown.
E. Louisville Historian Spring Issue -Journal of camping trip taken by Louisville
residents to Estes Park in 1890 will be edited by Bridget for the Historian.
XII. Committee Reports
A. Facility Management -See report above on Museum Campus maintenance
issues and funding.
B. Community Education
1. Historical program with author Sybil Downing is scheduled for Thursday,
May 1, 2008.
2. Postcard announcements will be sent to Historical Society members
during the week of April 13th. The Library, which is cosponsoring the
program, will be contacted regarding the coordination of address lists to
avoid sending duplicate postcards to the same address.
3. Bridget has been asked to install a display of coal mining artifacts from
the Historical Museum at the Library in connection with the One
Book/One Boulder County book selection, Rocket Boys, which takes
place in a coal mining community. Although items from the Museum
generally are not loaned out, the Library, like the Museum, is a City
building and the display cases that will hold the artifacts can be locked.
C. Events and Fundraising
1. The Fundraising Committee met recently and shared the results of 2007
fundraising efforts with the Commission.
2 The Commission discussed whether to keep a booth at the 4th of July
Festival and La Festa in August; there may be more discussion as those
events approach.
3. It was decided that there will not be a car raffle at the Fall Festival this
year as there was last year.
4. There are already several homeowners on a list to contact for this year's
Holiday Home Tour and Bridget will be contacting them soon.
D. Membership
1. Renewal totals for 2007 were discussed and they include:
• 12 Business Sponsorships have been renewed.
• 87 out of 100 individual/family memberships that were up for renewal
have been renewed.
• 6 out of 11 complimentary memberships have converted to new paid
memberships.
• A current Business Sponsor may move to an in-kind donation rather
than renewing its paid Sponsorship.
