Historical Commission
Minutes
April 16 2008
E. Bridget is asking for a Commission member to volunteer for a few hours each
Saturday that the Museum is open so that she has enough people to help
visitors when it is busy. Bob Enrietto helped on April 5 and Don Ross will help
on May 3. It was determined that Bridget will ask at each meeting for a
volunteer for the following month.
F. Bridget gave an update on the Spring edition of the Louisville Historian which
will highlight the 1890 journal of a trip from Louisville to Estes Park.
G. Bridget asked about having the full 1890 journal printed so that copies can be
given to other museums in the area for their archives, to history researchers,
and to other interested parties. There was some discussion of whether copies
could be printed and sold as a fundraiser. It was decided that this will be
discussed further.
H. Bridget and Meredyth have asked three architects for rough estimates for the
cost of designing and building a new building for the Museum in order to
provide artifact storage space for the Museum's collection, office space for
staff and volunteers, and a public restroom for Museum visitors. These
estimates will be used by the City in budgeting and planning. It is still
unknown when or if such a building would be funded by the City.
XII. Committee Reports
A. Facility Management.
1. Meredyth reported that Alice was working on getting two additional bids
for the maintenance work that needs to be done.
2. Meredyth reported that the reconfiguration of the front steps of the Jacoe
Store building is on hold until a determination can be made about how to
meet building code and not build so far into the sidewalk as to be a traffic
concern.
3. Donna will try to get the landscaping plaque information from Elle.
B. Community Education
1. The historical program with author Sybil Downing is scheduled for
Thursday, May 1, 2008.
2. Donna asked for volunteers to help greet guests and set up.
3. Publicity for the event has included postcards that were sent to the
Museum's mailing list and a mailing list supplied by Library staff. The
mailing totaled almost 600 postcards. Posters publicizing the program
were distributed to Commission members to post around town.
4. Dan will make introductory remarks at the event to encourage new
members to join, and Diane will introduce the speaker.
C. Events and Fundraising
1. The Taste of Louisville is June 14th. Donna asked for volunteers for the
Museum and the booth in front of City Hall.
2 Bridget has begun to make some contacts with homeowners for
December's Holiday Home Tour. The goal is to have the homes lined up
by September.
D. Membership
1. The committee discussed a possible grand opening of the Museum
gardens when they are complete.
2. There has been a great response to the utility bill insert for memberships.
