program will become self-sustaining, and in no
more need of states funding .
Mayor Fauson asked for any public comments either
in favor of or in opposition to the grant
application. None.
Fauson closed the public hearing.
Mohr moved and Fauson seconded a motion to approve
the Grant Applicat:ion. The motion was passed 5-0.
COUNCIL DISCUSSION/DIRECTION - OPEN SPACE PRESERVATION
METHODS Steve Anderson presented an outline from the
Boulder County Consortium regarding the possible
methods of funding an Open Space Acquisition
Program for Bou:Lder County. The Consortium
requests Council direction in this matter in order
to assess the general attitude in the County.
Anderson stated that Louisville is in better
shape in terms of Open Space ownership and
acquisition than any other municipality in Boulder
County with the exception of Boulder itself. The
consortium's proposal suggests a sales tax to be
used for open space acquisition. Anderson
suggested that there were more important needs, in
terms of human needs within the City that sales
tax revenues could. be better applied to. Anderson
asked for comments from the council.
Discussion on they matter was delayed until the
hiring of the new City planner, and a Council Work
Session where t:he matter could be better
addressed. Anderson was directed to tell the
Consortium that the Council was taking the matter
under advisement and would get back sometime in
July with the comments.
INFORMATION ONLY - INSTALLATION OF
STOP SIGN As an informational item, Tom Phare presented a
map showing installation of stop signs on
uncontrolled intersections in the old-town
Louisville area.. Due to public confusion
concerning rights-•of-way at these intersections,
it is felt that the sign installation will clarify
both the vehicular and pedestrian right-of-way
situations. It is projected that the project will
take between two and four weeks to complete. Cost
of the installations will be funded from the 1988
street budget.
Council and staff discussed the proposed signage
sites. Phare will proceed with the project.
4
