In ordez• to firmly identify asphalt <br />paving cost, the Public Works Department is <br />requesting authorization to obtain bids on the <br />yard paving around the City Shops. Also included <br />in the paving contz~act would be quantities of work <br />for paving the service drive in Heritage Park. <br />Funds are available in the CIP for the park <br />project. It would be most economical if both <br />projects were put into one bid, thereby <br />eliminating duplication of effort in preparing <br />contract specifications and related bidding <br />requirements. <br />Mohr. moved that staff be authorized to obtain bids <br />for asphalt paving at the City Shops and Heritage <br />Park. Mayor Fauson seconded. Unanimous. <br />APPROVAL OF AWARD OF BID - <br />VIA APPIA IMPROVEMENTS - THE <br />CIVIL DESIGN GROUP, INC. <br />Hundley explained that in the letter Council <br />received from The Civil Design Group Inc., <br />engineers for McStain Enterprises for the Via <br />Appia Project, recommendations were made for bid <br />award to Tarco, Inc. for earthwork at $153,400; <br />Hirschfeld, Inc. for utilities at $331,602; <br />Western Paving for paving and concrete work at <br />$749,112; and SaBell's Inc. for landscaping at <br />$112,000. The City staff recommends the approval <br />of the award of bids for the completion of Via <br />Appia to the contractors identified subject to the <br />sale of bonds and t:he availability of bond <br />proceeds. <br />Anderson asked how bids were obtained. Hundley <br />explained that the Improvement District is a one- <br />property owner project. In order to move as <br />quickly as possible. and get the most cost <br />effective bids as possible, The Civil Design Group <br />pre-selected certain bidders and solicited bids. <br />Bond Counsel was consulted and determined that the <br />City is proceeding <~long the proper course since <br />the City is not paying for the improvements. <br />There is a parcel through the Wood Bros. <br />Subdivision that will be bid through public bid <br />procedures. This will be administered directly <br />through City staff. <br />This portion of the Via Appia Project is from the <br />end of the Wood Bros. Subdivision north of <br />Saratoga to the Homart property line. The City's <br />portion of the project is the two-lane stretch <br />9 <br />
