AWARD CONTRACT - VIA APPIA PROJECT - WESTERN PAVING INC AND
APPROVAL OF PAYMENT FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES -
CIVIL DESIGN Phare explained that On May 27, 1986, the City
received cpnstructi.on bids for the Via Appia
project extending from Lafayette St. approximately
750 ft. west. Low bid was from Western Paving at
$123,597.00. Civil Design Group Inc., the City's
consulting engineers assisted in the project and
recommended contract be awarded to Western Paving.
In order for the City to undertake this project,
it will be necessary to obtain construction
management, surveying, and field testing services.
Civil Design Group Inc. has submitted a proposal
for this wark in construction management and they
will be spending considerable time on other
portions of Via Appia. Public Works staff feels
they can mast effectively manage the portion from
Lafayette Street 750 ft. west.
Hundley stated that Via Appia construction through
the Special Improvement District has begun this
week and this is the City's portion of the Via
Appia construction.
Mayor Fausan moved that Western Paving Inc. be
award the contract for the Via Appia Project at
$123,597.00 and that Civil Design Group Inc. be
retained for construction management, field
testing, and survey work on that portion of the
roadway in an amount not to exceed $12,000.
Carnival seconded. Unanimous.
REJECTION OF BIDS - NORTH LOUISVILLE TRUNK
INTERCEPTOR PROJECT Phare explained that on April 8, 1986, the City
received construction bids for the North
Louisville Interceptor Sewer. The low bid was
$43,000 in excess of the estimated contract cost.
Since that time, the City has been contacted
regarding a proposed development and their assess-
ment of the North Louisville Interceptor Sewer.
In discussipns with the developers, it was deter-
mined that a better route for the sewer as far as
their development is concerned was further east
than the alignment upon which bids were received.
Upon review, there is potential for significant
cost savings in locating this further east. The
relocation would run nearly parallel to Highway 42
from the Wastewater Treatment Plant to a point
approximate~.y 500 ft. north of So. Boulder Road.
The advantage of this route is that the depth of
the sewer would be considerably less than that if
it was located in the State Highway right-of-way
presenting a cost savings in construction and
would result in easier maintenance for the City
once the sewer is in place.
5
