This is a request to • probable cause for a landmark <br />designation to allow for funding for a historic cture assessment for 1124 Main Street, <br />between Caledonia a h <br />HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: <br />This property was placed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places in 1986. <br />It can count among its owners a coal mine company; one of Louisville's earliest Italian <br />families; two owners of the Rex Theater that was located at 817 Main Street; and other <br />families associated with Louisville's Italian heritage and with coal mining. <br />ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY: <br />The structure has elements of the Craftsmen style such as a hipped roof, full porch with <br />battered foundation and overhanging eaves. <br />From the 1985 National Register Nomination Form: <br />"This is a vernacular, wood hipped box house with three outbuildings. The foundation is <br />stucco over ? [sic] with a rectangular footprint. The windows and doors are in original <br />location, not original. Roof is hipped with asphalt shingles. There are 2 chimneys, 1 is <br />brick, flat topped, 1 is corbel capped. The outbuildings are a shanty, chicken coop and <br />outhouse. The shanty has experienced some modification. There are many trees and <br />the remnants of a vineyard." <br />
