City of Louisville Employee Survey
July 2008
Supervisor Relationships
Seventeen questions measured the"supervisor relationship"factor. Each question was worded so
that"strong"agreement was the most positive response. On average, this dimension received a
rating of 70 points. Generally, employees felt positively about their relationship with their
supervisor.
Nearly all employees agreed that they"know what is expected of me at work" (95%). Eight in 10 or
more respondents agreed with the following statements: "The working relationship I have with my
supervisor is generally positive," "My supervisor knows his or her job,""My supervisor
communicates with me in a respectful manner,""My supervisor treats me with respect"and"My
supervisor, or someone at work, seems to care about me as a person." (See the figure on the
following page.)
A slightly smaller proportion of employees felt that their supervisor works collaboratively with them
to set goals, that their supervisor actively encourages them to contribute ideas about their work
performance and that their supervisor motivates them to improve their performance. While two-
thirds of respondents agreed with each of these statements,one-third disagreed.
ci
2
C
U
-c
C
C
•n
z
N
DRAFT Report of Results
9
