Arts & Humanities Council
Agenda
DATE

want to reach out, but offer little of interest to any Latino Culture, including having
Latino and Spanish speaking people on their own staffs.
-Maryan suggested we try and define what the SCFD calls "underserved
populations." It could be any number of groups such as Asian, Latino, Youth,
Senior Citizens, etc. Perhaps a bilingual poetry slam that entrained youth would
be a good place to start.
-Requests have gone to the City for $1 OK funding for LCC and a half-time staff
position. Don Brown has repeatedly said we will not receive either. Wendy made
point that we still have to ask for such, and ask repeatedly.
-Frost Yarnell has indicated that she would like to be the City Council
representative to the LCC at the end of Don Brown's term. Kathy Martin and
Wendy will explore how the LCC should request her appointment as such.
- We are still waiting for response from the City Attorney about questions
regarding legal obligations of our 501 c 3 org. On July 13 the Attorney
responded to Keith Williams that he would still need a couple of weeks to get to
our issues. It has now been a month. Wendy can email those questions to
anyone interested.
-We clearly need to get our finances in shape and develop a financial report.
That is partly a result of LCC Board members not filing timely event reports, and
partly due to lack of a financial report for the last two years. LCC clearly needs to
get its act together on this as it relates to LCC, the City, SCFD and the IRS.
Wendy pointed out that new IRS regulations probably require us to file Form
990's, which we have never done. As a 501 ( c )3 we are also required to have an
annual audit, which we have never done.
-In addition, Karen Gerrity from SCFD has offered to review our financial reports
to make sure we've corrected our problems that SCFD noted in May of this year.
We need to create one as soon as possible so we have the necessary time to
make any corrections.

VIII. Treasurer's Report
-The Treasurer was not present.
-Maryan said that as of her last deposit the LCC bank account contained
$6,380.39. She also stated that she had been unable to get a check from the
treasurer for the performers at the last even she facilitated, and that she paid the
performers with cash from the door.
-Various issues about our financial reports were discussed and that it may be too
much for a volunteer to do. It was suggested that we might hire a bookkeeper to
help get the finances straightened out. Don pointed out that BCAA already does
that, as well as hire an auditor each year. Don will contact BCAA to get the
names of the professionals they use and an estimate of costs involved. The
consensus was that once the books are straightened out said Bookeeper will
only have to work a few hours each month.
-Maryan pointed out that the survey forms we have filled out by audience at any
one event are not used past Julie Kovash recording the email addresses and
Kathy Martin recording the USPS addresses. There is much valuable information
