Sisk moved that Council continue the heating on this ordinance until August 16, 1994. Seconded by <br />Howard. All in favor. <br /> <br />Davidson asked the City Attorney to come with language to allow the sunset provision. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 1158, SERIES 1994 - MAKING THE POSITION OF CITY TREASURER <br />APPOINTIVE RATHER THAN ELECTIVE IF APPROVED BY THE VOTERS OF THE <br />CITY OF LOUISVILLE, AND CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION THEREON - 2ND <br />READING - PUBLIC HEARING (PUBL. LSVL. TIMES - 7/9/94) <br /> <br />Tanoue read by title only Ordinance No. 1158, Series 1994, "An ordinance making the position of <br />City Treasurer appointive rather than elective, if approved by the voters of the City of Louisville, and <br />calling a special election thereon." <br /> <br />Sharon Asti-Caranci, acting City Administrator, stated that this was discussed at Work Sessions and <br />Council directed the City Attorney to draft an ordinance to have this as a ballot question on <br />November 8 election. <br /> <br />Tanoue stated that, if this ordinance were approved, the current City Treasurer would stay in office <br />until the first Monday after the first Tuesday in January of 1995. <br /> <br />Davidson opened the public hearing calling for anyone wishing to speak on Ordinance No. 1158. <br /> <br />NONE <br /> <br />Davidson closed the public hearing and called for Council comments. <br /> <br />Keany stated that after some citizen's comments and research and consultation, he is not in favor of <br />this ordinance. <br /> <br />Davidson stated that this does not reflect on the current Treasurer, who has done a fine job, but <br />because of the risk if an unscrupulous person were elected to this office. <br /> <br />Sisk moved that Council approve Ordinance No. 1158, Series 1994, on second and final reading. <br />Seconded by Levihn. Roll call was taken.
