ERIE 8-1-8: WATER TAPS: A. Separate Tap Required: 1. For each water meter, a separate water tap must be purchased from the town and all required tap fees paid to the town. (Ord. 10-2013, 3-12-2013) 2. No person(s) may enlarge or change the type of use for which water was originally taken and used from the town water system without making application and receiving written consent from the town. 8-1-13: WATER METERS: A. Metered Water Required: 1. Water meters shall be installed to meter all water use from the town's system as follows: a. Every single-family detached residence mobile home and each commercial and industrial customer, shall have a separate water meter. b. All multi -family and single-family attached units with separate addresses, including, but not limited to, condominium complexes, duplex residences and townhouses, may have either a master meter or separate meters for each unit and for irrigation. However the town will not issue both a master meter and separate meters for individual units or irrigation. c. All multi -family units with the same address, including, but not limited to, apartment complexes, shall have one master meter. 2. Any metering requirements not addressed above shall be determined by the director of public works. 8-1-14: SERVICE CONNECTIONS: A. Installation By Owner: It is the property owner's responsibility to excavate, backfill, and install the service line necessary to serve the property in accordance with the town's specifications and standards. B. Maintenance By Owner: The owner of any property having an existing connection or making a new connection to the town water system shall be responsible for the maintenance of the water service line from the curb stop interior meter or meter pit into the property, and shall keep this line in good condition at his expense. The owner shall, at the owner's expense, at all times keep pipes, fixtures, and appliances on the water using property tight and in good working order so as to prevent waste of water. Needed repairs will be completed within ten (10) days, or the town will complete the repairs and charge the property owner for all incurred expenses. C. Excavation And Backfilling: All excavation and backfilling shall be in conformity with town standards and specifications. D. Extension Of Service Line: 1. Each property shall be served by its own service line, and no connection with the water system shall be made by extending the service line from one property to another property. 2. In cases where service lines have been so extended from one property to a different property, the continued use shall be permitted only until such time that water mains are constructed in the street in front of such property, at which time connection shall be made to the water main at the expense of the property owner being so served by such an extension, and such an extended service will be discontinued. E. Separate Connections Required: No water pipes shall be permitted to connect between one water using unit and another water using unit except pursuant to and in accordance with this chapter.
